Russia vs Ukraine: what is the conflict ?

 All the answers are hidden in history.. 

 So we began in the 9th century there was a state called “Kevin rus” Slavic people lived here and the city Kyiv was the capital, it was ruled by the “Grand Prince Vladimir” between 980 -1015. He was known as Vladimir in Russian and Volodymyr in Ukrainian, so as president of both countries now. Anyway, so Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarussian draws their lineage from This Slavic state, in the 1900s In the Soviet Republic, Russia is the most powerful in 15 Soviet republics and Ukraine is the second most powerful country. 

But the Soviet Union disintegrated in 1991. Ukraine become independent and Ukrainian inherited most of the Soviet nuclear arsenals, But gave it up to Russia in 1994 in exchange for this, Russia took the guarantee of Ukraine's security and promised to respect Ukraine's sovereignty. Also they signed "Budapest Agreement" Along with some other countries which is kind of security assurance of Ukraine. 

Cut to November 2013 “Victor Yanukovych” was the president of Ukraine he is openly a pro-Russian in 2013 he rejected a European Union trade deal this deal can make a great integration of Ukraine in European Union instead of this Yanukovych decided to take a 15 billion dollar bailout from Russia. too many Ukrainians it felt like to be sold to Moscow so a big protest broke out called Euromaidan Euro because it's related to Europe and Maidan because it happened in Nezalezhnosti maidan What we today known as “independent square” here people came out with the slogan of “sign the European deal, Yanukovych must step down”

in this protest, Russia supported the Yanukovych and the West supported the protesters followed by all these issues Yanukovych's government was fell down in Feb 2014, and the president was driven out of Ukraine and fled to Russia but not every Ukrainian was happy with this many pro-Russian in Ukraine wanted Yanukovych to stay and the minority felt rootl

On the other side of the border Russia was angry it has lost its puppet and to satisfy the situation Moscow take over Crimea, Crimea is a peninsula located in the Black Sea, In 1954 Soviet leader “Nikita Khrushchev “ transferred Crimea from Russia to Ukraine with the thought of "fraternity between both the countries". but at that time Russia and Ukraine both were part of the Soviet Union so this transfer did not mean very much. but when Ukraine become independent in 1991 Crimea got separated from Russia but still, their military bases are located in Crimea with a promise of Russia to respect Crimea's autonomy. But in 2014 Russian military began seizing government buildings in Crimea and on March 16 Crimea people voted to join Russia, soon Russia officially occupied the entire Crimea. The focus then shifted to eastern Ukraine where Russian influenced separatists start seizing territories in eastern Ukraine in April 2014, but on 17 July 2014 Ukrainian military decided to flush out the rebels, and separatists began losing ground so the Russian army came into the picture and they invaded eastern Ukraine fought alongside the rebels, then all the incident resulted in the “Minsk agreement -2014” in which both the sides were agreed on military withdrawals and Ukraine agreed to hold the elections in eastern Ukrain. 

Crimea

But today Ukraine is divided into east and West, the West looks at Russia with suspicion, and the east looks at Russia through the lens of the shared history and heritage. but now the war has started between Russia and Ukraine, why?

NATO

Because Russia wants NATO To stop expanding, NATO is a "North Atlantic treaty organization" it's a military alliance of 31 countries and Ukraine want to join NATO as well but Putin doesn’t want Ukraine to join NATO because that way the USA will be close enough to attack Russia, Putin wants Ukraine to be neutral or join Russia as they were before the part of it. People are there in Ukraine said tension in Russia and Ukraine are reported almost every year it finally broke out this year. and 71% of the Ukraine population believed that the war had started before the crisis “their country is already at war with Russia”. Adding to all this 72% of Ukrainian rejected the thought of Russia “Historically, they were one” & 59% of the Ukrainian population want To join NATO.
